Taxonomy
Loxonema (Allostrophia) was named by Kittl (1894) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. Its type is Melania perversa. It is the type subgenus of Allostrophiinae.

It was Zygopleura (Allostrophia) by Haas (1953); it was reranked as Allostrophia by Golikov and Starobogatov (1987), Sepkoski (2002) and Bouchet et al. (2005).

It was assigned to Loxonema by Kittl (1894); to Zygopleura by Haas (1953); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Allostrophiinae by Golikov and Starobogatov (1987) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
