Tellina dentata was named by Woods (1815) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Florida-Mexico, Bermuda.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Divaricella (Egracina).

It was recombined as Divaricella (Egracina) dentata by Chavan (1951) and Cox et al. (1969).
