Taxonomy
Sigaretus chipolanus was named by Dall (1892) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Florida.]. Its type specimen is USNM 112967, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Sinum chipolanum by Dall (1915), Gardner (1947) and Hendy et al. (2008).
