Ostrea sellaeformis rugifera was named by Dall (1898) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Florida, Panama.]. Its type specimen is USNM 114570, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Ostrea rugifera by Gardner (1926) and Gardner (1947); it was recombined as Cubitostrea rugifera by Woodring (1982), Perrilliat (1994) and Hendy et al. (2008).
