Eleniceras was named by Breskovski (1967). Its type is Eleniceras stevrecensis.

It was assigned to Cephalopoda by Vasicek and Faupl (1996); and to Neocomitinae by Reboulet (1996), Vasicek (2002) and Lukeneder (2004).
