Taxonomy
Spondylus lamellacea was named by Kellum (1926) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Eocene; North Carolina.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USGS 10616 (Bourdeau tract), NE Cape Fear River, Pender Co., North Carolina, which is in an Eocene marine marl in the Castle Hayne Formation of North Carolina.
