Tornatella textilis was named by Guppy (1873) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene-Early Pliocene; Florida, circum-Caribbean.]. Its type specimen is USNM 115434, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Actaeon textilis by Dall (1903); it was recombined as Acteon textilis by Gardner (1947) and Hendy et al. (2008).
