Actaeon hamadryados was named by Maury (1910) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Florida.]. Its type specimen is USNM 349797, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Acteon hamadryados by Gardner (1947) and Hendy et al. (2008).
