Tellina (Moerella) ctenota was named by Gardner (1947) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Florida.]. Its type specimen is USNM 353916, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 2211 - Alum Bluff, lower bed, which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
