Taxonomy
Macoma (Psammacoma) marmorea was named by Gardner (1947) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Florida.]. Its type specimen is USNM 353922, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 7257 - Tenmile Creek, Sexton's marl bed [Chipola Fm], which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
