Taxonomy
Scapharca (Scapharca) callicestosa was named by Dall (1898) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene; Virginia.]. Its type specimen is USNM 146264, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Arca callicestosa by Sheldon (1916); it was recombined as Arca (Anadara) callicestosa by Mansfield (1932); it was recombined as Anadara callicestosa by Gardner (1943).
