Taxonomy
Pecten ernestsmithi was named by Tucker (1931) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Pliocene; Atlantic Coastal Plain.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pecten (Chlamys) ernestsmithi by Mansfield (1936); it was recombined as Chlamys (Lyropecten) ernestsmithi by Gardner (1943).
