Aulacostrepsis was named by Perner (1907) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg D Emsi Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. It is not extant. Its type is Aulacostrepsis simplex.

It was reranked as Coelostylina (Aulacostrepsis) by Perner (1907).

It was assigned to Coelostylina by Perner (1907); to Loxonematidae by Knight et al. (1960); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
