Amusium mortoni
Taxonomy
Pecten mortoni was named by Ravenel (1844) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene-Early Pleistocene; Atlantic Coastal Plain.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Loc. 237 - The Grove [Waccamaw Fm], which is in a Pleistocene coastal marl in the Waccamaw Formation of South Carolina.
It was recombined as Pecten (Amusium) mortoni by Dall (1898), Glenn (1904) and Graban and Shimer (1909); it was recombined as Amussium mortoni by Böse (1906); it was recombined as Amusium mortoni by Mansfield (1932), Gardner (1943), DuBar (1958) and Hendy et al. (2008).
It was recombined as Pecten (Amusium) mortoni by Dall (1898), Glenn (1904) and Graban and Shimer (1909); it was recombined as Amussium mortoni by Böse (1906); it was recombined as Amusium mortoni by Mansfield (1932), Gardner (1943), DuBar (1958) and Hendy et al. (2008).
