Pterinaea fasciculata was named by Goldfuss (1836).

It was recombined as Pterinea (Cornellites) fasciculata by Maillieux (1935); it was recombined as Ptychopteria (Cornellites) fasciculata by Bailey (1975) and Bailey (1983).
