Taxonomy
Chainodus ulmensis was named by Ziegler (1990). It is not extant. Its type specimen is SMNS 44766 D4, a tooth (p4 dext.). Its type locality is Ulm-Westtangente, which is in a MN 2 terrestrial marl in Germany.

Ziegler 1990Große Chainodus-Art mit folgender Vorderlappen Mandibularer Zahnformel: ?132; p3 einwurzelig, mesial vom p4; p4 mit schwachem Vorderlappen, Hinterinnenhügel und Postcingulid.; m1 stark amblyodont, mit mesial konvergiereneden Seiten und isoliertem, lingualem Paraconid; m2 klein mit stark reduziertem Talonid. P3 zweiwurzelig. P4 ohne mesiales Basalhöckerchen und ohne Innenhügel. M1 mit tief gespaltenem Metaconulus. Mesostyl and M1 tief, am M2 oberflächlich gespalten.
