Cavernisa was named by Radoman (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u Sepkoski's reference number: ZR78. (Kabat notes that this is a freshwater extant genus, not an extinct marine genus!)]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hydrobiidae by Global Biodiversity Information Facility (2015).
