Cerithioderma was named by Conrad (1860) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni T Ol]. Its type is Cerithioderma primum.

It was assigned to Trichotropidae by Lozouet (1998) and Wienrich (2001); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Capulidae by Dockery (1993) and Darragh (2017).
