Chedevillia was named by Cossmann (1906) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than T Eo-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1074]. Its type is Rimella munieri.

It was assigned to Gastropoda by Clark (1942); to Strombidae by Squires and Advocate (1986) and Squires (1987); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rostellariidae by Pacaud (2008).
