Clathroscala was named by de Boury (1889) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 899]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Epitoniidae by Beu et al. (1990); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
