Metopaster praetumidus was named by Schulz and Weitschat (1975). It is not extant. Its type specimen is University of Hamburg, Holotype SGPIH 1761.

M. G. Schulz and W. Weitschat 1975Body pentagonal, each side with 8 superomarginals. Enlarged superomarginal plates triangular, in contact with 4 inferomarginals. Superomarginals slightly lower than those of Metopaster tumidus, but with a well-developed bulge on the abactinal side.
