Noviaster hostettleri was named by Hess (1991). Its type specimen is Naturhistorisches Museum Basel, Holotype M9916, paratypes M 9904-9906 and is not a trace fossil.

H. Hess 1991Species of the genus Noviaster with enlarged primary abactinal in the disc. Carinal plates in a well-defined row, reaching the arm tip. Abactinals of the arm robust tall and wrinkled. Adambulacral plates with two lanceolate subambulacral spines.
