Taxonomy
Metopaster altus was named by Schulz and Weitschat (1975). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Geologisch-Paläontologischen Institute, University of Hamburg, holotype SGPIH 17.

It was recombined as Parametopaster altus by Breton (1992).

M. G. Schulz and W. Weitschat 19758 superomarginals in each side; median superomarginals short and high, abactinal part regularly swollen. Ultimate superomarginals rounded-triangular, in contact with four inferomarginals. Outer face of marginals with raised central field; the outer part with small hexagonal spine pits, the central with large rounded spine pits.
