Hallopoda was named by Marsh (1881). It is not extant.

It was reranked as the infraorder Hallopoda by Quenstedt (1882), Huene (1920) and Walker (1970).

It was assigned to Dinosauri by Quenstedt (1882); to Dinosauria by Marsh (1881), Marsh (1882), Cope (1883) and Marsh (1894); to Theropoda by Marsh (1895) and Marsh (1896); to Coelurosauria by Huene (1914), Huene (1914) and Huene (1920); to Paracrocodylia by Walker (1970); and to Crocodylia by Carroll (1988).
