Taxonomy
Herpestides aegypticus was named by Morlo et al. (2007). Its type specimen is DPC 5975, a mandible, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Wadi Moghra MGL-15, which is in a Miocene marginal marine sandstone in the Moghara Formation of Egypt.
