Taxonomy
Brianurus was named by Edgecombe and Fortey (1995) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1088. Replacement for Briania Edgecombe 1994]. It is not extant. Its type is Briania jeffersoni.

It was assigned to Encrinurinae by Edgecombe and Fortey (1995); to Encrinuridae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002).
