Cyclozyga was named by Knight (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Step-u Sepkoski's reference number: 797,896,1258]. It is not extant. Its type is Cyclozyga mirabilis.

It was reranked as Zygopleura (Cyclozyga) by Elias (1958).

It was assigned to Pseudozygopleurinae by Knight (1930); to Zygopleura by Elias (1958); to Cyclozygidae by Likharev (1970); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudozygopleuridae by Knight et al. (1960) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
