Fusus cinereus was named by Say (1822) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Urosalpinx cinereus by Martin (1904) and Baker (1951); it was recombined as Urosalpinx cinerea by Wheat (1913) and Hendy et al. (2008).
