Dirocerithium was named by Woodring and Stenzel (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l T Eo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 547].

It was assigned to Cerithiidae by Squires and Demetrion (1994); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
