Pisania tenuicostatus was named by Tenison-Woods (1878) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Southern Australia.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Epidromus tenuicostatus by Tate (1888); it was recombined as Ratifusus tenuicostatus by Darragh (1970).
