Polyptchodon rugosus

Taxonomy
Polyptchodon rugosus was named by Emmons (1858). Its type specimen is USNM PAL 535447, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Elizabethtown, which is in a Campanian/Campanian terrestrial horizon in the Tar Heel Formation of North Carolina.

It was recombined as Polyptychodon rugosus by Emmons (1858); it was recombined as Thecachampsa rugosus by Cope (1871); it was recombined as Thecachampsa rugosa by Cope (1871); it was recombined as Crocodylus rugosus by Hay (1902), Hay (1902), Hay (1930) and Miller (1967); it was recombined as Deinosuchus rugosus by Baird and Horner (1979) and Lucas et al. (2006); it was considered a nomen dubium by Cossette and Brochu (2020).
