Mactra falcata was named by Gould (1850) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Recent; British Columbia-Mexico.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Symmorphomactra falcata by Dall (1894); it was recombined as Spisula falcata by Arnold and Hannibal (1913); it was recombined as Spisula (Symmorphomactra) falcata by Packard (1916); it was recombined as Simomactra falcata by Coan et al. (2000), Moore (2003), Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012), Hickman (2015) and Hendy (2021).
