Eocernina was named by Gardner (1934) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than T Eo-m-l]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Cernina (Eocernina) by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).

It was assigned to Ampullospirinae by Marincovich (1977); to Cernina by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ampullospiridae by Kase and Ishikawa (2003).
