Eocypraea was named by Cossmann (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno T Plio-u Sepkoski's reference number: 121].

It was reranked as Cypraea (Eocypraea) by Ravn (1933); it was misspelled as Eucypraea by Abbass (1972), Groves (1990), Sepkoski (2002), Moths et al. (2010) and Fehse (2013).

It was assigned to Cypraea by Ravn (1933); to Cypraeidae by Abbass (1972); to Eocypraeinae by Schilder (1924) and Groves (1990); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Ovulinae by Moths et al. (2010); and to Eocypraeini by Fehse (2013).
