Eoptychia was named by Longstaff (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife C Mosc Sepkoski's reference number: 362,797]. It is not extant. Its type is Loxonema sulcatum.
It was assigned to Pseudozygopleurinae by HornĂ½ (1955); to Eoptychiidae by Golikov and Starobogatov (1987); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudozygopleuridae by Knight et al. (1960) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
