Thyasira folgeri was named by Wagner and Schilling (1923) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Eocene; California.]. Its type specimen is UCCIP 11434, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Thyasira (Conchocele) folgeri by Moore (1988).
