Folinia was named by Crosse (1868) [Sepkoski's age data: Q Plei R Sepkoski's reference number: 650]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Rissoidae by Ponder (1984), Ponder and Lindberg (1997) and Todd (2001); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).

W. F. Ponder 1984Shell: small, elongate-conic, nonumbilicate, with strong axial ribs and spiral threads, or smooth and glossy with punctate microsculpture. Aperture D-shaped, with anterior and posterior angulations and channels; anterior channel narrow, weak to deep; posterior channel a narrow, deep notch. Outer lip opisthocline, with varix and duplicated edge. Base with prominent spiral fold (Figs 61; 140A, E; 142F). Protoconch elongately conic, about 3 Yz convex or shouldered whorls with weak spiral lirae or prominant spiral ridge (Fig. 140B, F).
