Polynices subtenuis was named by Ihering (1907) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Argentina.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Natica (Polynices) subtenuis by Wilckens (1912); it was recombined as Polinices subtenuis by Gazdzicki and Pugaczewska (1984) and del Rio (2004).
