Halloysia was named by Briart and Cornet (1877) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani T Than-l].

It was assigned to Cerithiopsidae by Wenz (1938); to Adelacerithiinae by Marshall (1984); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
