Nucula ornata was named by Sowerby (1846) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Oligocene-Early Miocene; Argentina.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Malletia ornata by Ortmann (1902); it was recombined as Neilo ornata by Erdmann and Morra (1985), Frassinetti and Covacevich (1999) and Griffin and Nielsen (2008).
