Helminthozyga was named by Knight (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-u C Step-l Sepkoski's reference number: 797,1258]. It is not extant. Its type is Helminthozyga vermiculus.

It was assigned to Pseudozygopleurinae by Knight (1930); to Pseudozygopleuridae by Knight et al. (1960); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
