Ricardolydekkeria was named by Ameghino (1901). Its type is Ricardolydekkeria praerupta.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anisolambda by Cifelli (1983).

It was assigned to Pantolambdidae by Ameghino (1901); and to Proterotheriidae by Simpson (1935), Simpson (1948) and Simpson (1967).
