Potamides alabamiensis was named by De Gregorio (1890) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Eocene; Alabama.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Turritella alabamiensis by Stenzel and Turner (1940); it was recombined as Mesalia alabamiensis by Harris (1896) and Perrilliat et al. (2006).
