Ianthinopsis was named by Meek and Worthen (1866) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife P Djhu Sepkoski's reference number: 109,362]. It is not extant. Its type is Platyostoma tumida.
It was assigned to Soleniscinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Soleniscidae by Pan and Erwin (2002); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
