Cerithium (Iddingsia) was named by Olsson (1929). Its type is Cerithium laeviusculum.

It was reranked as Iddingsia by Sepkoski (2002) and Perrilliat et al. (2006).

It was assigned to Cerithium by Olsson (1929); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cerithiinae by Perrilliat et al. (2006).
