Stratigraphy
Formation: | Stappogiedde | Member: | Innerelv
Stratigraphic resolution: | group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: The Innerelv Member is in the same stratigraphic section as the basal portions of the Lower Breivik Formation which is Vendian in age. The member is 275m thick and consists of two shallowing-upward sequences, each representing a transition from offshore marine (below wave-base) to wave-influenced shallow subtidal and intertidal deposition. Strike between N54E-N55E and dip of 19-28 degrees West. |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | green lithified sandstone |
Secondary lithology: | lithified siltstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: General for member: Interbedded greenish-grey shales and fine-grained, ripple cross-laminated sandstoens (southwesterly paleocurrent interpretted from asymmetrical ripple marks.) with thick interbeds of medium to coarse, parallel laminated sandstones with rippled tops and deformation due to slumping and loading. The speciens were found in a group of beds comprised of fine grained greenish gray sandstones and siltstones.
