Stratigraphy
Geological group:Kurnub Formation:Helez
Local order:top to bottom
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: lithified sandstone
Secondary lithology:ferruginous lithified carbonaceous "shale"
Environment:shallow subtidal indet.
Geology comments: The sediments of the Kurnub Group consist of shallow marine to continental sandstones, carbonaceous shales, sandy and ferruginous limestones, and marls. The lowest formation, the Zeweira, is the most arenaceous unit and includes the carbonaceous shales and lignitic layers that yielded the spores and pollen used in this study. The middle part of the Zeweira Formation contains the lowest marine intercalations
