Lithology description: "..Above the pyroclastics is a 870 cm thick sequence of dark brown grey-green tuffaceous shales [upper parts have C. colonus]...The sequence ends in a 7 cm thick bed of dark micritic limestone. This is then overlain by about 50 cm of the rusty-brown shales with two levels of concretions. In cross section each concretion shows two different lithologies. The lower half is formed of grey bioclastic limestone with cephalopods and graptolites, whilst the upper half comprises dark-grey, micritic limestone with ontogenetic stages of bivalves and gastropods...Locally the concretions are accumulated together and arranged chatoically as a result fo sliding...The concretions contain a rich fauna [details follow]." | |
