Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | shelly/skeletal,gray grainstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: "The Lochkov Formation consists of two basic lithofacies corresponding to the Kotys Member (light gray, thicker bedded, sparitic limestones) and the Radotin Member (dark, bituminous, platy biomicrites to biosparites with shale interbeds..." "light-colored, thicker bedded, bioclastic limestones containing abundant crinoidal debris..." "...massive banks of biodetrital limestone..." | |
Environment: | marine indet. |
Geology comments: "According to Chlupac (1983) the fragmentation of trilobite exoskeletons and coarse bioclastic layers in crinoidal limestones reflects a high-energy environment...within the shallow, subtidal BA 3 position. The locally flourishing association of large, free-lying brachiopods indicates a locally protected, quiet, shallow environment...in the shallower part of BA 3...Some interlayers with [Dicoelosia, Skenidioides, and Dalejina] may reflect a temporary deepening of the sea (BA 4?)." |
