Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:gray lime mudstone
Secondary lithology: calcareous "shale"
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: "The Lochkov Formation consists of two basic lithofacies corresponding to the Kotys Member (light gray, thicker bedded, sparitic limestones) and the Radotin Member (dark, bituminous, platy biomicrites to biosparites with shale interbeds..." "...occurring in dark, bituminous, platy biomicritic to finely biosparitic limestones, with a variable amount of dark, calcareous shale intercalations..."
Environment:marine indet.
Geology comments: "The changes in grain size, layers of coarser clastic material, graded bedding, sorting of organic remains and their concentration in thin layers, all point to less stable conditions and to pulses of higher energy. Large, even very fragile shells are commonly well preserved, and articulated trilobites are present. Although short distance transport should be considered, the assemblage broadly corresponds to the original population. A deeper subtidal shelf to slope environment of medium energy is inferred within the BA 4-5 position."
